Thank You
By Janet Abrahm, MD, FACP, FAAHPM, FASCO
I want to begin this year by thanking all of you that have signed up for this newsletter. As I explained in the inaugural edition, we titled the newsletter, “And What Else?” because it will include topics “on the periphery of oncology training but at the heart of your current clinical challenges.” As an example, my most recent newsletter was on pain management, and explained the pitfalls of fentanyl patches, and also how to use methadone. My next newsletter will discuss the reality of physician burnout and moral distress and what you, as a clinician, can do about it.
Although I hope to be a resource for any clinician involved with the treatment and care of individuals with cancer, I especially hope to be a resource for community oncologists most of whom do not have a palliative care partner. If you have colleagues that fall into this group, please share news of my website, JanetAbrahm.com, and this newsletter. A share button is included in every newsletter. Posting on any forum or in any publication would also be wonderful. All is of course, free of any charge.
My plan is to send newsletters monthly, discussing a topic that has recently emerged in research, one you have asked for in your emails to me, or that is discussed in more detail in the Resources section of my website. I will update the website consistently with new research and topics you have asked me to include, so please take a look and offer feedback!
Again, welcome! I am excited you are here.
Best,
Janet Abrahm, M.D.
